Combative midfielder Jason Gorton swept the board at the Glossop North End presentation night last Friday, taking the two First Team awards to be decided on the night. Firstly Gorton was awarded the Players’ Player of the Year by the management team of Steve Young and Terry Hincks, having garnered the votes of more than 75% of his team-mates.
Shortly afterwards popular Glossop lad Gorton was off his feet again to pick up the Supporters’ Player of the Year, this award presented by fan Mark Stewart, who had attended some 50 Hillmen games in the season.
North End correspondent Jonathan Haggart was delighted for Gorton, stating “Jason has had a magnificent season at the heart of the midfield, protecting the defence with tough tackling and straightforward passing. He is a manager’s dream, because he listens to his instructions and carries them out to the letter. “
Meanwhile, the reserve team celebrated their league and cup double on the evening, with their Manager’s player of the year being awarded to Ashley Smallwood, whilst Players’ Player of the year went to Antony Trucca.
The ladies team also had their presentation, with Donna Bradbury scooping the main award in the year she retires from the game. She was also given a long service award along with fellow retiree Linda Cooke, although team manager Graham Dockerty has not given up hope of coaxing a further season out of either of the players.
