Glossop North End visited the Westview Stadium in Bacup on Saturday for their last match in what has been a frustrating and ultimately disappointing season. With nothing to really play for, and Bacup Borough playing their fourth match in four days, we could have expected a typical end of season match and, for the large part, that was the case. GNE were down to the bare bones in terms of players for this match. In addition to the now regular absentees due to long term injuries, no less than three players cried off on the morning of the match. Mike Jones arrived at the ground and was struck down with illness meaning that back up goalkeeper Steve Dryden was given the number 10 shirt and the bench consisted of the unwell Jones and the returning Jamie Dickinson who had not played for GNE since being injured in an FA Cup replay at Louth Town way back in August. St. Helens Town are in danger of relegation from the Premier Division of the NWCFL and were in need of points to try to pull clear of Squires Gate. For GNE it has been a dismal run of form since early February and a confidence boosting win was needed to take them into the last two matches of the season in somewhat better spirits. In the end, neither side would have been entirely happy with the outcome but the home side could count their blessings (and a single point) as the Hillmen missed a host of chances to register a much needed victory. | | 20th April | Glossop North End 1 Barnoldswick Town 2 Spring arrived at Surrey Street on Saturday and the Hillmen were looking for a change of fortune with the changing season as Barnoldswick Town were the visitors in the last home match of the season. However, GNE have had little to cheer about in matches against Barnoldswick in both League and Cup since Town came into the Premier Division of the NWCFL in 2011 and it was no different in this match as the dismal run of results for the Hillmen continued.
