Guardian article rounds off celebratory season When The Hillmen lost 2-1 at Barnoldswick on Tuesday evening, it was thought Glossop North End’s 125th year season had come to an end. However, on Friday there was another surprise addition to the year when an article on sides that had one year in the top division of the football pyramid was published in the Guardian. Scott Murray’s article was assisted by club historian Tom Sutcliffe, who had undertaken extensive research for 125 year articles and he was only too happy to provide details of the 1899/1900 season for the paper. “The club is rightfully very proud of its history” said Tom. “My research found lots of characters and lots of interesting stories, and Scott was able to incorporate just a few in his article. It’s always nice to see the club get some national publicity too.” If you’d like to read the article, which includes Leyton Orient, Northampton Town, Carlisle United, Swindon Town and Barnsley as other one season wonders, it can be found here - http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2012/may/04/joy-of-six-single-seasons-sun |
