The celebrations continued for Glossop North End on Friday as Glossop Golf Club hosted a reception to mark the club’s achievements in making the FA Vase Final at Wembley. 100 people packed the clubhouse and were greeted with a champagne reception before enjoying a 5 course dinner and subsequent entertainment. In his welcoming speech the Golf Club ’s President Jim Dickson, who was full of praise for North End’s achievement, stating “The golf club was delighted to host this unique opportunity to celebrate the remarkable achievements of Glossop North End Football Club. The entire evening was a great success at which tributes were rightly paid to all associated with getting the club to Wembley for the final of the FA Vase. It should not be forgotten that there are hundreds of clubs and players in football that have not made it to Wembley so for Glossop North End to have done so is a great featWe at the golf club hope to force closer links between the Golf Club and the Football Club both in sport and socially in a community spirit” Meanwhile, The Golf Club’s House Chairman Keith Clegg was only too pleased to host the event, and stated “I hope this will build on the good relationship between the two clubs. North End has put the town of Glossop back on the football map and we at the golf club hope we can organise many more celebratory events in the future.” In his speech, Steve Young thanked the players and officials of the club for their efforts in the record setting season, but the big news of the night came from Hillman Chairman Dave Atkinson, as he announced that the club had successfully negotiated a budget for the 2010/11 season with the management team of Steve Young and Terry Hincks. “It’s great news that Steve and Terry will be in charge again for the next 12 months after 2 seasons which have given us unprecedented success. We know what our aims are for the next season...we want Unibond League football -l and whilst aim that delivers pressure on the management, it’s no greater pressure than they will be putting themselves under, as they are a very professional team. Preparations are well under way, and we’re looking forward to hitting the ground running in August.”
