Non League Day - Saturday 4th September

Glossop North End will mark the inaugral Non League Day by offering half price entry for season ticket holders of the 92 league clubs on Saturday September 4th for their home game with Squires Gate. All the fans of the clubs will need to do is show their season ticket on the gate, and they will be able to pay half the usual rate of £6 (£3 concessions).

The "non-league football day" is the brainchild of James Doe, a lifelong football fan and supporter of Harrow Borough FC. Its aim is to promote the semi professional game in this country by virtue of a fortuitous break in the football calendar. In James' own words:

"WITH ENGLAND PLAYING THE NIGHT BEFORE AND THE PREMIER LEAGUE AND CHAMPIONSHIP TAKING A WEEK OFF, I URGE ALL FANS OF THE BIG CLUBS TO GET OUT AND WATCH THEIR LOCAL NON-LEAGUE TEAM INSTEAD ON SATURDAY 4TH SEPTEMBER. GIVEN THE CURRENT FINANCIAL CLIMATE, CLUBS OUTSIDE THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE NEED ALL THE SUPPORT THEY CAN GET, SO YOUR PRESENCE AT A GAME WILL BE GENUINELY APPRECIATED. WITH TICKETS AND REFRESHMENTS AT A FRACTION OF THE COST, WHAT'S STOPPING YOU?"

North End hope that fans of City, United, Derby, Stockport, Oldham, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley and any other of the clubs within a certain radius may make use of the offer, and come and sample the atmosphere of the best supported team in the Vodkat League, and perhaps partake in the pies and real ale. The club are sure that first time vistors will be pleasantly surprised by the match-day experience at a non-league game, and of course, would hope to welcome them back at sometime in the future.

The club have announced that Glossop's home game with Squires Gate on Saturday 4th of September will be used as a fundraiser for the Supporters Club chosen charity, Buxton and Glossop Friends Fighting MS. This is great news for the charity who are now planning a full range of fundraising activities for the day as well as sourcing advertisers and sponsors for the game.

In addition the 4th of September has been designated Non-League Football day. This is a campaign to raise the profile of non-league football with those that would not normally attend games. The 4th has been selected as league games in the Premiership and Championship have been called off due to England's game with Bulgaria on the Friday night.

We will announce more details nearer to the event.
